1 RESUMO

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF METHODS FOR ESTIMATING POTENTIAL EVAPOTRANSPIRATION FOR THE MUNICIPALITY OF ITACOATIARA, AM AFTER FILLING GAPS IN METEOROLOGICAL DATA
2 ABSTRACT
The spatial and temporal distribution of water availability in a region is extremely important because it enables the establishment of guidelines for the implementation of planning policies that contribute to the rational use of available water resources and minimize undesirable losses. Several authors have highlighted the role of potential evapotranspiration as a component variable of the water balance, which is estimated on the basis of physical principles and mainly empirical equations to compensate for the absence of direct evapotranspiration measurements at different locations and under different meteorological conditions. On the basis of the published methodologies for filling gaps in meteorological data, the performance of indirect methods for estimating potential evapotranspiration was evaluated using the following methods: the Blaney-Criddle, Camargo, Hargreaves-Samani, Jensen-Haise, Thornthwaite, Makkink, and FAO 24 methods and the Blaney-Criddle-Frevert method compared with the standard FAO 56 Penman‒Monteith method. These geps were identified in data obtained from the automatic meteorological station, with a provisional normal of 15 years, from the Meteorological Database for Teaching and Research of the National Institute of Meteorology in Itacoatiara, AM. The results obtained revealed the optimal performance of the Makkink, Jensen–Haise, Blaney–Criddle–Frevert, FAO 24 Radiation and Hargreaves–Samani models, which can be applied in the design of agricultural planning and irrigation systems, contributing to improved water use efficiency and increased crop productivity.
