The hydraulic characteristics of the soil influence the development of plants, emphasizing this importance with sustainability, the present study aimed to use green manures in the reform of the cane field, evaluating the reflexes of the crotalaria and pigeon pea in rotation with the sweet sorghum and sugarcane in water infiltration and resistance to soil penetration. The infiltration equations were determined from the combined data from the test with a concentric ring infiltrometer, performed after the first sugarcane cut, in an experimental area in the city of Cabrália Paulista, SP, Brazil, following the Kostiakov model. Rotations with green manure increased the basic infiltration rate (BIR) and reduced the resistance to penetration. Crotalaria stood out in all the variables studied, resulting a 200% increase in soil BIR, pigeon pea also promoted improvements in soil conditions, however these were less expressive. Thus, it can be said that the use of crotalária and pigeon pea results in improving the physical characteristics of the soil.
