In order to meet the growing world demand for food, it is necessary to use irrigation in agricultural production, which is the largest and most dynamic sector user of water resources in terms of quantity. The objective of this work was to understand the dynamics of the adoption of central pivot irrigation systems in Tocantins through spatial analysis, identifying the area and types of crops under irrigation, analyzing the behavior of the activity according to the irrigation potential of the region. It was verified the existence of seven classes of agricultural crops distributed in 26 municipalities of Tocantins, they are: 1. Pineapple; 2. Sugar cane; 3. Turf grass; 4. Grain crops; 5. Horticulture and research and/or grain breeding and; 6. Pastures. A total of 143 central pivots were identified, over 14,639 hectares. The study pointed out that 22 municipalities in the state of Tocantins have potential for irrigation, however, 27% of the pivots identified are not located in these areas. It was found that 40% of the municipalities in the state of Tocantins have priority areas for the implementation of sustainable irrigated agriculture, highlighting that 69% of the pivots surveyed are in priority areas, totaling 92 pivots.
