1 RESUMO

ECONOMIC AND PRODUCTION PERFORMANCE OF WATERMELON CROP UNDERGOING DIFFERENT IRRIGATION FREQUENCY
2 ABSTRACT
In order to evaluate the effect of different irrigation frequency on the cultivation of watermelon crop (Citrullus lanatus), an experiment was held at the Paraguay farm, Cruz municipality, Ceará state. The statistical design was randomized blocks with 4 treatments and 5 blocks. Treatments were considered as different irrigation frequencies as follows: 1D – daily; 2D – every two days; 3D – every three days and 4D – every four days. The following variables were analyzed: commercial productivity (CP); mean weight of the fruit (MW); polar diameter (PD); equatorial diameter (ED); shell thickness (ST) and soluble solid content (SS). Net revenue for each treatment was also evaluated. The treatments affected significantly all variables, and the daily irrigation frequency was responsible for the highest yield (64.660 kg ha-1). Moreover, that treatment was also responsible for R$ 4.759,44 in economic returns for the farmer.
Keywords: Citrullus lanatus, irrigation management, net earnings.
