1 RESUMO

2 ABSTRACT
The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of increasing of urban waste compost and irrigation levels on seed germination of Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) Wit. The experiments were installed and conducted in a protected environment at the Center for Technology and Natural Resources, Federal University of Campina Grande (CTRN/UFCG) in Campina Grande-PB. The seeds were sown directly into plastic tubes of polyethylene with a volume of 300 ml, containing the following substrates: I - Urban waste compost + Soil + Sand (1:1:1); II - Urban waste compost + Soil + Sand (2:1:1); III - Urban waste compost + Soil + Sand (3:1:1). The experiment was carried out taking in account five levels of irrigation: 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% e 100% of field capacity. The effect of substrates on the germination of seeds of L. leucocephala was better substrates represented by II and III, providing values higher 45.42% and 41.99% respectively. Have the irrigation levels corresponding to 40% and 100% of field capacity, conferred higher germination percentage when applied to substrates I and III with 52.54% and 50.92% respectively.
