ESTATÍSTICAS SOBRE IRRIGAÇÃO NAS REGIÕES SUL E SUDESTE DO BRASIL SEGUNDO O CENSO AGROPECUÁRIO 2005-2006

Abstract

A pesquisa objetivou contribuir para o debate sobre a melhoria das estatísticas sobre a irrigação no Brasil, mais incisivamente quanto às regiões Sul e Sudeste. Foram utilizados dados do Censo Agropecuário 2005-2006, apresentando os resultados de acordo com a indicação de uso da irrigação e área irrigada por Estado dessas regiões, comparando, ainda, com trabalhos de análise dos dados e informações do Censo Agropecuário 1995-1996.  A área irrigada no Brasil, de acordo com o Censo Agropecuário 2005-2006 é de 4,45 milhões de hectares. A região Sudeste apresenta a maior área irrigada, equivalente a 35,6% da área total irrigada. Em segundo lugar está a região Sul com, aproximadamente, 27%; pois o restante da área irrigada, encontra-se nas demais regiões. O método de irrigação por superfície predomina apenas na região Sul (82,2%), enquanto na região Sudeste, a aspersão é o método mais utilizado. Constatou-se que o método por superfície está sendo substituído pelos outros métodos de irrigação, principalmente, pelo método da aspersão; já a irrigação localizada representa a menor área. O Censo 2005-2006 realizou levantamentos precisos, mas no que se refere à irrigação no Brasil ainda é possível se encontrar divergências numéricas entre o Censo Agropecuário, e as informações publicadas na literatura.

STATISTICS ON IRRIGATION IN THE SOUTH AND SOUTHEAST REGIONS OF BRAZIL,  ACCORDING TO THE 2005-2006 AGRICULTURAL CENSUS

This research aims at contributing to the debate on improving statistics on irrigation in Brazil, specially statistics on the the South and Southeast regions. We used data from the 2005-2006 Agriculture Census, presenting the results by the indication for use of irrigation and by irrigated area by state on these regions, comparing them also with works on data analysis and with information from the 1995-1996 Agriculture Census. The irrigated area in Brazil, according to the 2005-2006 Agriculture Census is 4.45 million hectares. The Southeast region has the largest irrigated area, equivalent to 35.6% of the total irrigated area. The South region is second in irrigated area, with approximately 27%. The surface irrigation system predominates only in the South Region (82.2%), while in the Southeast Region, the spray irrigation system is the most widely used. It was found that surface irrigation is being replaced by other systems, mainly by spray irrigation, while localized irrigation is used in the smallest area. The 2005-2006 Census conducted surveys accurate, but with regard to irrigation in Brazil is still possible to find numerical differences between the Census of Agriculture, and the information published in the literature.
